Evolution Korea

For a long time the Korean scientific community been hesitant to engage with creationists, afraid that doing so might boost the credibility of the group. Silence is no longer an option.

Such a variation in gene frequencies is known as natural selection and is the primary driver behind evolutionary changes. However non-genetic changes like the increase in muscle mass from exercise or diet cannot be considered to be examples of evolution since they are not inherited by future generations.

The STR has won its first victory by removing from textbooks examples of the evolution and ancestor of the avian, called the Archeopteryx. Its sights are now set on removing excerpts from Darwin's notorious finch research and on human evolution too.

STR claims to have the backing of 4,000 families and individual members. The goal, according to STR is to clear the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which paints an unflattering image for students. It also hopes to combat the influence of American Creationists in the nation. A survey of the newest biology teachers found that about half do not believe in evolution. The reasons aren't clear, but could include religious beliefs or the lack of creation scientists in the United States.

The KACR accomplished a number of things through its lectures and 에볼루션 코리아 seminars in the past. It has a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of them was a textbook on natural science with a creationist stance. This led to an interest in college communities. In 1991 an academic and minister started teaching Creation Science in one university and it continues to be taught until today.
