South Korea's democracy is susceptible to populist impulses. However, it is more stable than what one might expect.

Origins

The people who are affronted by the huge cost of the old system would prefer the need for a comprehensive program of liberalization in capital, labor, and product markets. On the other hand champions of the old system want to keep it in place by leveraging nationalist sentiments and generating fear over potential job losses.

Policy and academic analysts are in a tense debate about the extent to these two trends are driving Koreas development towards an economic model that is radically different from the one of governance. In the past, the majority of the anti-evolutionist movement in Korea was focused on teaching college students and in bringing them to Christ. In 1980 the year 1980, a four-day creation science seminar was held in Seoul during the World Evangelization Crusade. Drs. Henry Morris and Duane Giss of ICR were the keynote speakers. The event was attended by a large number of pastors, professors, church leaders and scientists.

The success of this event led to the creation of the Korea Association of Creation Research (KACR) on January 31st 1981. The inaugural meeting was widely reported in national newspapers, including The Korea Times and Chosun Ilbo and was well-received by the public.

KACR began publishing a monthly newsletter called CREATION, in which it reported on its activities and published articles about scientific evidence for creationism. It also translated a number of films and slides from ICR and several books on creationism that were published outside of Korea. KACR members also gave talks in universities and churches across the country.

One instance of one KACR success story took place at the KAIST university in Seoul. Students at KAIST in Seoul were so fascinated by creationism that they raised money and got funding to build a small creationist museum on campus.

In addition to its work, KACR has published a bimonthly publication called CREATION. The magazine covers a variety of topics in the field of creation science.
