WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade items their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. Buying a similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and item level upgrade may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using a button, which will show a preview of the item level upgrade at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For example weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an Item Level Upgrade upgrader at beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only accessible via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit and a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with numerous new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a particular item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading other items to that same item level will cost less even if they are part of an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is reduced too, but it is only available after certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW players have a few options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, contingent on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of any difficulty to earn equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons that have a high difficulty for endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't too difficult, but the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, once an item reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

Another significant modification is that crests have one use, so it's important to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrade equipment available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all slots are full of high-quality equipment.
