WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

Upgraded gear generally sees more value in trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item upgrader kit used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new gear. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They are purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next upgrade level, in the event that there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the item slot, and the current level of the item level Upgrade. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item upgrades has been upgraded to a certain degree, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Many locations have upgraders for their items which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon as well as the chance to obtain the latest recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

For example, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), Item Level Upgrade it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to get their gear up to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests with care, since they are only used for one purpose. It is best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear that you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly applicable to rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which will only be able to benefit from the account-wide discount when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
