World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading

The upgrade of an item upgrade allows players to boost an item's gear score up to 700 and also add a final perk. Items can be upgraded if they're in your inventory and you take them to the Kiln.

Certain items are worth upgrading due to their unique stats. (For instance an excellently roll breakpoint armor is used in melee PvP). Other items such as weapons don't really change after an upgrade, and aren't worth the effort.

Weapons

The number of stones needed to upgrade a weapon will continue to increase until it requires the higher level of Smithing Stones, at which the number will be reset to one.

Upgraded weapons can also alter their base stats. While this is usually beneficial but it can also have negative consequences as well. For items that only see use in a particular build (Whistant's shield for FB sorcs, for instance) upgrading them can render them unusable unless you get a lucky roll.

The ability to upgrade armor items to improve their effectiveness. For example, if you upgrade chests or helms this will increase its defense base while gloves and belts enhance their required strength and dexterity. Armor has a rerolling option for its Enhanced Defense percent. This means that it is able to reroll down to a lower value.

The upgrade template for a weapon shows the new stats that it will gain upon upgrading and their respective values. This means that a weapon will gain 33% attack damage when it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. The 3% difference does not mean that the weapon will hit 3 times less, as it is an absolute number.

A weapon can be rerolled by pressing the green button with arrows that circle in the menu for items. This will roll an item and alter its stats but not reset the weapon's levels or tie it to the account status.

Armor

Adding a few upgrades to your armor could make a an enormous difference in your capacity to withstand. Certain sets can provide MASSIVE increases in resistance to poison, curses fire, magic, and other. This can make it easier to navigate difficult terrains. In general, the greater defense your character has the more value you will get from every point of health you have therefore it is important to upgrade items your armor as often as you can.

To upgrade your armor, head to one of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. There are four in total and each one requires you to complete a special side-quest involving the Stable Trotters musical troupe. Once you've completed the primary side quest and mastered the fountain that corresponds you'll be able to contact any Great Fairy to open up the menu for upgrading your armor.

The amount of materials needed to upgrade each piece of armor will vary. The Champion Leathers, as an example can be upgraded to a 5 defense rating, which allows you to keep up in frigid conditions with a large number of adversaries. The Snowquill Headdress, on the other is able to be upgraded to +20 defense to ensure you can survive a raid with your friends.

Note that armor can't be upgraded in the same manner as weapons, so you'll have to work on enhancing it to increase physical power if you're Warrior or Spell Power if you're a Mage. It's also a good idea to save your armor upgrades to use for armor you'll be wearing at the end of the game, like the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield or the helmet you'll wear for the final boss battle as well as the Monter Parts merchant's mask.

Trinkets
