Top Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

While robots aren't able to replace a traditional vacuum in removing ground-in debris such as metal screws and pieces of orzo pasta, they're great in sweeping dust, crumbs and pet hair. The best models have intelligent navigation technology and object avoidance capabilities that allow them to maneuver around cords, toys and other household obstacles.

1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO is a fantastic robot vacuum with a number of clever features that make it more easy to maintain than other models. Its ability to restart the same place it left off during our tests is a great feature. It could do this for 77 minute on one cleaning, and then the battery ran out.

The i3+ EVO, unlike some of the other robot vacuums we tested has a self emptying bin that automatically disposes of debris into an external dirt compartment on its charging base once it is full. This makes it easier to maintain the unit and also helps prevent the i3+ EVO from overfilling, however it still needs to be manually empty after each cleaning session. The i3+ EVO dustbin can hold 2.4L that is enough to last through four to five cleaning sessions.

Like the i7model, this model is equipped with state-of-the-art floor tracking sensors to create maps and navigate neat rows. However, the i3+ EVO only stores one map, while the i7 can store multiple. The i7 can also utilize its map to create no-go zones and virtual barriers, but the i3+ EVO cannot.

While the i3+ EVO is more effective at picking up dirt and debris from surfaces than the other robovacs we looked at, it's not the best in terms of cleaning corners and edges. It's also less gentle on furniture despite being relatively quiet. It was quite rough on furniture as it forced chairs away. It also caused collisions against the sides of the test bed.
