WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in specific statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item upgrading by 3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new gear. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. Players can purchase them from NPCs of item upgraders for a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. button, which will display an image of the item upgrades at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item level upgrade slot and the current level of the item as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and a chance to obtain a new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through various methods which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was altered a bit, with numerous new features added. After an upgrade has been completed to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This is true even if those items are from another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade items is reduced and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a variety of options. Flightstones are an item upgrader kit that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests can only be used on gear of a specific rank, and each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complicated may require as many as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't too complicated however, the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one usage and it's crucial to use them properly. It is Best item upgrade to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the top-quality equipment you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount for the entire account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
