The i3+ isn't able to feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots that we test. It could be stuck on power cords or socks, and may have trouble navigating between surfaces, such as hardwood and rug.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, including getting rid of any toys or clutter it may encounter. It's also an excellent idea to keep the dustbin and filter clean so that they don't become clogged with dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station, and it automatically takes the dirt out of the docking station's dust bin. Then it continues cleaning from where it began. Battery life is about an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes about three hours to fully charge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and is packed with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and the most important feature of all -- it comes with a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

In our tests the i7+ performed more agile and faster than our second-placed model and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface types including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy, though, is its self-emptying dustbin which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and lowers the amount of time spent cleaning.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to start or stop cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room and vacuum a particular area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. After connecting to these services, we were able communicate with the i7+ using voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with cordless vacs that are like minivans and buses, this tiny Dyson model feels like a sports car. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for most households, but it also fits nicely on a coffee table or on the bookshelf, where you can wave it around like an enchanted tool.

The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system removes allergens, and then releases cleaner air back into your home. Its specialized head uses stiff nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets and collect large crumbs or fine dust. It comes with three suction settings to meet the task that is being completed.
