WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in specific statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear generally sees greater value for trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for those with higher variance due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and is accessible anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current item level of the item being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. For example upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They can be bought by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool using a button, which displays an Best item upgrader's preview at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item upgrade (what do you think) and the current level of the item, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item level upgrade is upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Item upgraders can be found at many locations including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of obtaining an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no item upgrader available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a benefit and a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with some new features added. After the player has upgraded to a certain Best item upgrader level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This is even if those items come from an entirely different set of equipment.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is reduced also, but is only available after certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

Players have several options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. They can use Flightstones, which are a common upgrade currency that is accessible to all players, or crests that are more specialized and are used to upgrade specific levels of the item upgrader mod. Crests are an important part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

First, you should know that crests are only available for equipment that is that is of a particular rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The most basic and straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complex requires as many as 20 crests based on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons to obtain endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an item upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

The use of these currencies isn't too difficult however, the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests only have one use therefore it's essential to use them properly. For instance, it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top gear you have available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to make. This is especially true for items such as trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The discount on the account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
