Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

The statistics of an item are improved through upgrading it, also referred to as "upping". Each upgrade increment increases the stat linearly.

Upgrade components

If, however, you have a rune or glyph that has not yet been incorporated into your gear, you can move it to another piece of gear by using the Upgrade Glyphs context menu in the Glyphs panel.
