Path of Exile Item Upgrading

In Path of Exile, item upgrading is among the most effective ways to upgrade your gear without relying upon massive drops or trade. This article will show you how to upgrade your items.

Upgrades to equipment provide an increase in the item's stats. This bonus scales with the upgrade component's level and rarity.

Components

Upgrade components can make your weapons and armour better. They can be obtained by the destruction of enemies, finding them in item spheres, or buying them from karma dealers. They can also be salvaged from equipment that has them, or through a high-tier salvage kit such as the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. Contrary to other products, upgrade components are not destroyed when they are removed from an item.

The main purpose of upgrade components is to enable an item to be upgraded, however, they also serve other purposes. They can be stacked to increase the quality of an upgradeable item, or they can be used to increase the experience gained when upgrading an existing weapon or piece of equipment. They can be forged for additional bonuses. For instance, a specially crafted glyph will boost the chances of upgrading its target, and an upgrade boost will enhance the defense or attack attribute of a weapon or armor.

By selecting an upgrade template from the GUI will allow you to connect it to an item. This will display the list of upgrade components that the item upgrades can be upgraded to. Alternately, you can make use of the workbench to choose an upgrade template. In either case, an item will be upgraded after enough upgrade items components have been gathered.

Each component has a different experience multiplier that affects how much more experience an item receives when it is upgraded by that component. For instance, organic components give a higher experience multiplier than mechanical ones. Therefore, it is recommended to upgrade using organic components until you reach the multiplier of experience for the next rank of equipment or weapon, and then move to mechanical upgrades.

Each item comes with a maximum upgrade number that can be received. The number of upgrades available is determined by the upgradeable rank and the type of upgrade available to the upgradeable item. Sets
