WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

Upgraded gear generally sees greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item however, they are always cheaper than buying new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item upgrader kit, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that can be used to level up weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They can be purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be used on any weapon or tool with an button, which will display an item's preview at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the item level upgrade slot, and the current item level. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item level upgrade is upgraded to a certain level and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Item upgraders can be found in many places on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and the possibility of getting the latest recipe. The discount for upgrades increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item upgrader available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only accessible through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit as well as a drawback.

Crests

Players have a variety of options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. They can make use of Flightstones that are a common upgrade currency that is available to all players, or crests that are more specialized and used to upgrade specific item levels. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade can require up to 20 crests, contingent on the type or gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible level on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one usage and it's crucial to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the Best item upgrade equipment available, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning on making. This is especially applicable to items like trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The discount on the account will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
