Top Rated Robot Vacuums

A robot vacuum can keep floors clean enough to decrease the frequency at which you'll need to manually vacuum. Select a vacuum with good navigation, can clean corners and stairs, and that has large bins that will need to be emptied periodically.

There are models that can mop and charge themselves, which is a feature important for families with pets or children. A lot of the top performers in our tests offer decent obstacle-avoiding capabilities.

1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ EVO and its sibling, the i3 EVO are both identical robots, but they differ in that the i3+ has self-emptying features. The i3+ is an excellent alternative for those who want a a fully automated, hands-off cleaning experience but are willing to manually empty the dustbin of the robot when it is full.

Both robots are proficient in removing dirt and dust particles on carpets and hard floors and can navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes smart maps of your home, which help the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. However unlike the i7+ or other top rated robots we tested, the i3+ doesn't have a feature for avoiding obstacles, so it may get stuck on things such as power cords or socks, and it may have trouble in navigating through transitions between surfaces, such as from hardwood to rug.

iRobot recommends that you tidy up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other items it might come across. It's also a good idea to keep the bin and filter clean so they do not become blocked by dirt. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or its battery is low it will return to its docking station, automatically emptying its trash into the station's external dustbin, and then continues cleaning the area where it left off. The battery's lifespan is around an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes three hours to charge.

2. IRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is an excellent model from iRobot's flagship line, and it comes with the latest features. It is self-charging and self-navigating. But the most significant feature is its auto-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba I7+ is able to make rooms more efficient maps using Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and it can control your robot through the app or by voice.

In our testing, the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our runner-up and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces types, including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin, which eliminates the main sources of maintenance and reduces recurring cost.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We utilized these services to instruct the robot to start or stop cleaning sessions and also to move around the room and vacuum a particular area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. When connected, we were able to communicate with the i7+ using voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and evaluating the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is an athletic car that is amidst a sea of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for many households and can fit perfectly next to the table for a coffee or shelves where you can wave it around like an enchanted tool.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system traps allergens, then releases fresh air into your home. Its specialized head uses stiff nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets, and then pick up large particles or fine dust. It has three different suction modes that can be adapted to the specific task. It is able to quickly change between handheld and floor vacuum and vice versa.

This model comes with an attached dock that charges the Dyson to 100 percent within 3.5 hours. It also provides easy access to 2 attachments as well as an handheld. This is a huge improvement over previous Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its limited run time. As CR's tests show, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are not true. This is an average and not a remarkable run time for an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. This is still enough to clean most of a typical-sized home however, it's not enough to clean every spot (though a second run-through usually does the trick). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more mobile than previous Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is significantly better on low-pile floor carpet.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

The 694 is a basic robotic floor vacuums vacuum that's an excellent choice for those who don't have a lot of money to spend on a robot. It's capable of sucking up all kinds of debris in our testing, and it often passes over the same areas multiple times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front end helps it reach into corners and along the edges of walls which is a nice addition.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it isn't equipped with the mapping capability of more sophisticated models such as our top selections and the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. As a result, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords and low furniture, and it often will run out of battery before making it back to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in many ways in that it has fewer parts that need regular cleaning and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower costs for recurring maintenance, has more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in maneuvering itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and is charged faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba. It also comes with physical boundaries strips and can be controlled using your smartphone's voice assistant. It is also more robust, has a more powerful motor, and performs better on floors with bare or low-pile.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a household name in home electronics. It's not surprising, then, that they are also among the top producers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has the most advanced onboard technology for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app provides plenty of options to personalize your robotic floor vacuums cleaner, such as virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior adjustments docking frequency settings and much more. The app is simple to navigate and use similar to other Samsung devices.

In our tests our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86% of it. However, it didn't do particularly well at avoiding taller objects like cords and socks which was a disappointment. It's priced higher than other models we've tested, and this could be a deterrent for some shoppers.

The app lets you access the onboard camera of the smart vacuum. You can also set up live streaming from the robot's area of cleaning. This feature allows you to monitor your pets or children when you're away from home. The filter and the dustbin can be cleaned for an easy, quick clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ also comes with a clean and tidy station that's self-emptying and helps keep the robot's trash bin clean and optimizes its suction power for each cleaning run.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Contrary to other robotic vacuums that are made for hard floors and carpets, Black and Decker robots are specifically designed for hard floors. The robots come with an extra-wide cleaning path and a dustbin that is 2X bigger than the competitors. This lets them clean the area for longer. They also have two side sweepers that can be used to clean around corners and edges. The POWERSERIES Extreme model comes with AutoSense technology, which can tell whether it's picking up dirt or debris on the surface and automatically adjusts the power level. It also comes with a smart app that lets you view the virtual map and manage functions and schedules. Plus, you can monitor the battery's status and return it to its dock to charge at the touch of one button. The app lets you alter the LED lights on the Top Rated Robot Vacuum of the vacuum to tell where it is focused or if it has gotten stuck.

The app allows you to steer the best robot vacuums manually when needed. My living room rug for example is darkly colored which could cause a problem for other robots. However, the HRV 425BL continued to move across the border, but it didn't register it as an incline. And the ability to create a weekly cleaning schedule is a wonderful time-saving benefit.
