Robots that mop and vacuum offer the convenience of cleaning dry debris (dust dirt) and wet messes (spills, staining) in one go without the need to switch out devices. They can also save space compared to two separate units, particularly in smaller living spaces.

A good combination bot will have excellent navigation and obstacle avoidance. Look for models with docks that let them automatically empty their bins, fill their water tanks and machine-wash the mopping pads.

Both the S1 Pro vacuum and mop come with plenty of running time as well, with the mop being capable of operating for 184 minutes in Quiet mode, and the vacuum can last for 136 minutes in normal mode, before needing to recharge or return to the base to refill. And you can see the entire cleaning information in the app, which is clearly laid out and easily understood however we would like to be able to differentiate between a mop only vacuum and a vacuum/mop clean when looking at a clean area in the cleaning history.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra, the latest version of Roborock's flagship robot mop and vacuum, is the most recent version. This year's model has an agitator that doubles as its mopping pad. The Roborock model, like the other two I tested it has infrared and a reactive 3D obstacle avoidance technology to help it avoid obstacles such as furniture, walls and other obstacles. However, the S8 Pro Ultra takes things an extra step by having a dual camera that can recognize objects and determine whether they are a wall or another surface. It then can automatically alter its path and clean them without missing a beat.

This is the most expensive of the three models I've reviewed, but it's also the most feature-packed. Its sleek, angular style is eye-catching and it only has three physical buttons which include the power button that also resumes cleaning; a mop-only switch that doubles as a child lock and a home button that can return the robot to its dock. Lifting the hinged lid, you will find a 350ml dust bin and 200ml water tank. The water tank automatically empties and the bin auto-refills.

The only downside I've discovered with this model is that its VibraRise mop pad mount isn't removable. It is possible to replace the mopping cloth when required, but it's a challenge to take the mount off for manual washing. I've observed that any soft carpet that the robot passes will come into contact with the Velcro-like fastener system on the mount, and can cause abrasions.

The S8 Pro Ultra is equipped with a number clever features that include support for Google Home and Amazon Alexa. The Roborock app is where you can manage and configure these smart features. It also has maps and advanced mopping options. The app lets you plan cleanings and monitor battery life. You'll need to jump through some hoops to activate voice control on this model. It's a shame, considering how well-performing it is otherwise.

It can be controlled via the Dreame app or with Alexa, Siri, and Google Home to ensure a smooth voice-controlled operation.

4. L20 Ultra
