Diablo 4 Item Upgrades

item upgrading upgrades allow players to increase the level of equippable items like weapons or armor, as well trinkets above a certain threshold. You can upgrade items at any NPC that accepts the appropriate currency.

There are some sets that come with set bonuses that provide additional effects when Link wears the entire set. These bonuses are helpful in certain situations, such as when exploring the Gerudo Desert or in a dark dungeon. The Desert Voe set, for instance, offers a Stealth Up effect that makes it easier to get past enemies.

There are also universal upgrades that can be incorporated into any kind of equipment. These upgrades offer smaller bonuses than those that are restricted by type, but are easier to acquire. However, there are exceptions for glyphs, which can be salvaged using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.

Depending on the type of item level upgrade, upgrading it can cost Dilithium or gold. In addition, some upgrades require Flightstones or crests. The amount of Flightstones and Crests required to upgrade an item is determined by the level of the item. Blizzard also sets a maximum level for upgrades. Upgrades to the highest level are expensive, especially when upgrading PvE equipment.

Upgrades can also modify a weapon's ammunition, or damage die size. They can also change the weapon's special properties like its heavy or operational property, or its hand requirement. Certain upgrades can alter the appearance of a weapon.
