The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot vacuum can clean and vacuum your floors without your involvement. It also leaves the floors spotless. Its price is surprisingly low and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are pluses.

Be sure to examine the brushes of your robot vacuum that vacuums and mops for hair that is tangled and large particles and clean them as required. Some models also self-empty their onboard dustbin into a larger bin in the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great option for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and works while you're at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to offer cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is perfect for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a good cleaning job on different flooring and rooms with different flooring types including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robotic cleaner and mop vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the rivals. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient, but it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with the amount of dirt they are.

If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your home must be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would think from its price. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic hoovers vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
